JAKE 2-year-old neutered male
Meet two-year-old Jake. Jake was an owner-surrender and was heartworm positive. He has recently completed his heartworm treatments and has been doing very well. Jake has learned some manners since coming to SEVA GRREAT. He will sit politely while waiting for his dinner. Upon entering the house, he has learned to sit and wait to have his muddy feet wiped. Jake will take the initiative to keep your favorite spot on the furniture warm, and he will obey the “off” command. He has full run of the house without exhibiting any destructive behavior when left alone and can routinely hold up to nine hours. Jake also enjoys riding in a minivan. He is crate-trained, but prefers being close to his foster dad. He walks well on leash with occasional excursions to check out interesting smells, but is a perfect angel when he’s wearing a Gentle Leader.
Jake’s ideal forever home should have a 6-ft fence with an experienced dog owner who can be firm and consistent with this spirited lad. Jake can be agitated with small children; so should only go to a mature family. Jake also exhibits strong prey drive and should only be placed with a home without small animals. He also dislikes unfamiliar dogs approaching too close too quickly; so he will require a diligent handler to guide him through proper introductions to new dogs. Unlike typical goldens, Jake can be guarded and barks assertively when strangers approach, yet he will warm up to new people after a proper introduction.
Jake is very sweet with his foster dad and has bonded wonderfully with his foster brother. He craves attention like most goldens and responds very well to positive reinforcement. If you can provide a structured environment and continue with his obedience regiment, Jake is your man. He will repay you with joyous wiggles when you come home, quiet snuggles before bedtime, slobbery kisses whether you like it or not, and most of all - unconditional devotion - forever.

LOUIE 7-year-old neutered male
Louie is a very lovable 7 year old neutered male who thrives on love and attention. He is believed to have an atrophic muscular disorder, possibly muscular dystrophy, which causes him great difficulty walking and maintaining his balance. In addition, he has instances of inappropriate drooling and trembling, as well as night vision difficulties. Louie has made great strides since he came to his foster home in April. He is healthier and active now. He loves his stuffed toys and is able to throw them high in the air and catch them (sometimes). He has developed an intense interest in UPS trucks—he barks at them and will pull his leash in an attempt to go after one while we are out walking. His bark is more like a howl than a bark and I have to laugh when he does this. I don’t know how he knows the difference between UPS and Fed EX but he does! Fed Ex gets no reaction from him at all! Louie goes to see his veterinarian Dr. Cooke on a regular basis. He goes every 2 weeks for acupuncture treatment which Dr. Cooke has graciously agreed to provide free of charge as long as it is helping his condition. The treatment is helping a great deal and Lou loves Dr Cooke and the staff. Lou is quite the “popular one” with them due to his winsome personality and affectionate attitude. Lou had 2 vacations this summer. He stayed with volunteer sitters here locally while we were out of town. He enjoyed both vacations and made some new human friends and 2 new canine buddies, Freckles and Toby. Freckles has a fish pond in his yard, of which, Lou took full advantage. His first dip in a fish pond! Oh, the smell of it! Well, you know what they say, “A dog has gotta’ do what a dog has gotta’ do!” Lou requires a lot of attention to thrive but it is time well spent. He loves you so completely and is totally devoted and loyal in return. Lou’s forever home ideally would be one in which attention would be shared by only one other dog at the most. He grows more affectionate each day and there is never a time I can look at him without smiling. I smile because I know he is happy and I know how much he deserves to be happy. Despite his handicap, he is able to enjoy life! What a “trooper!”

PEBBLES & BAM BAM 12-year-old neutered male and
12-year-old spayed female

Update: Pebbles and Bam Bam don’t act their age! They take US on walks using a double leash and are so frisky that they prance and wrap themselves around mailboxes. Sometimes they don’t “get” the restrictions of walking on leash! They are funny puppyish partners who adore their foster sisters and brother and are often found curled up back to back sleeping with one’s head across the other’s back. Though they are nearly deaf, when we wake them by surprise they are always happy and perky!

Pebbles and Bam Bam are 12 years old and are inseparable. They have been together since they were pups. For that reason, we are hoping to find a very special home that can accommodate them both. They do not act their age as they are quite spry and happy. They get along easily with other dogs and even enjoy wrestling with their foster siblings. Pebbles is heartworm positive but is active and has a good quality of life. We have decided to manage this by giving her Revolution rather than putting her through heartworm treatment at her age and she is doing well. Bam Bam is heartworm negative. Neither barks unnecessarily but they do whine for attention. They were grossly overweight but are nearing a healthy weight now and their coats are improving. What a beautiful pair.

SCRUBS 1-year-old neutered male
Scrubs is still a puppy. He still turns to you for direction and guidance on how to be a well-balanced dog. Scrubs needs daily exercise to be content. Apparently his favorite activity is to go on a run, pull ya on a skateboard, and romp with other pups. Oh and like the breed he loves to swim. Scrubs is not much for fetch but does enjoy toys to tug or flop around. After the energy is out Scrubs loves to lounge around the house, always at your feet. Scrubs is a true companion. He is happy with children and small/big dogs.  Scrubs loves food and will do anything for it. As a result he has a bag of tricks: play dead, play really dead, speak, gimme paw, gimme other paw, go to your rug (when a visitor arrives) and of course sit, down, stay, and come. Scrubs loves walks and car rides. Scrubs does well on leash and occasionally needs a reminder to go "easy" (not to pull). Scrubs is still learning that off-leash does not mean you have free range. We continue to train him off-leash at the beach with lots of treats and come. He is doing well and should have it mastered in no time. Scrubs does has crate anxiety which results in creative measures to escape when left in one. So, when we leave the house Scrubs is left in the laundry room with the door shut and a gate up against the door so he does not "Houdini" his way out. He is happy there with toys and a dog bed. Scrubs has been left at home for 4 to 6 hour periods on a regular basis. Scrubs does not require a fenced yard if properly exercised. He is a good boy about going out and doing his business then retuning to the door. If you do have a fence it needs to be higher than 4 feet to prevent escape antics.  Scrubs is a great dog! So smart and loving. He still is a puppy so continued "training" and daily exercise is necessary for the entire home to be happy. Scrubs will make a wonderful family dog or your best friend companion!

TESSA 10-year old spayed female (Updated)
If you’re looking for the perfect golden girl, look no further than 10 year old Tessa. Sweet, quiet and polite, Tessa wants little more from you than food and love. Her house manners are impeccable and she has never met a stranger. Like many seniors, Tessa has some arthritis in her hips which does slow her down a bit, so in addition to medications for allergies and her present infections, she will also need medication for her arthritis. For this reason, her perfect forever home will have few stairs and no rough play with her. Tessa's hearing has been damaged by persistent ear infections, and though she can't hear you call her, she can hear a loud clap, so that has become her cue when we want to get her attention, and she happily obliges. She really enjoys her crate, and although she can be left alone with the run of the house during a normal 8 hour work day, you will often return home to find her napping comfortably in her crate with the door open. She really comes alive when she sees a yellow tennis ball, and enjoys a short game of fetch. She gets along with absolutely everyone - canine, feline and human. There isn't a sweeter golden than Tessa!
