Adopt

Our Goldens
|
This is a partial list
of the dogs we have available for adoption. There is no
guarantee how long each dog will remain available, but the list is
typical of the dogs we normally have available for adoption.
RATHER THAN WAITING
UNTIL YOU SEE A GOLDEN POSTED THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN, WE STRONGLY
RECOMMEND YOU COMPLETE THE ADOPTION APPLICATION as soon as possible. THE
APPROVAL PROCESS COULD TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS. By
the time
your application process is completed, many of the Goldens you see on
this web site will have been adopted.
We have dogs coming into
SEVA GRREAT and being adopted out every week. So, it is
impossible to keep this list completely accurate.
Golden
Days Open House is held
each month. Although no dogs are actually adopted out at
these public events, it is an excellent way to see the dogs and talk to
the foster family about each dog. We cannot guarantee which
dogs will be at the Golden Days Open House.
If you are interested in
any of the dogs on
this listing, please select the option "How to Adopt" on the left hand
side of this page.
In order to adopt one of
our Goldens, you
must live in our
service area, which is
limited to Southeastern
Virginia. If you live elsewhere, we recommend you check the
nationwide list of Golden Retriever Rescues, which is maintained on the
Golden Retriever Club of America-National Rescue Society and Golden
Retrievers in Cyberspace
websites.
FENCED IN YARD - All
dogs need a fenced in
yard. Active dogs need an area large enough to really run and
stretch their legs.
SENIOR PROGRAM -
Available for dogs 9 years and older. This program allows
dogs to be adopted with a reduced adoption fee.

STAR 4-month old female puppy
Are you looking for a 4 month old, 30 lb., black female pup that is mellow,
quiet, loving, gentle and a real ham. I am that pup. I love to play but I
don't play rough unless it is with other dogs. I am looking for a permanent
family that enjoys a dog that is great with any age of children or just a family
looking for a sweet laid back dog. My mom was a golden retriever that is very
loving and mellow also. I think my dad may have been a Lab. He skipped town
before I got to know him. My vet says I will probably weigh 50-60 lbs. when I
am grown. I am still working on my potty training but I have almost got the
hang of it. I enjoy my crate and have no problem being in it. I would like to
find someone that is home part of the day so I can learn to mature with guidance
and bond with my family. I have not been chewing on things but I do love to chew on my Nylabone and play with my toys. I can entertain myself or play with
other people or dogs. I do have one habit and that is I love to chew up sticks
in the yard. So I can possibly help with your yard work. I do well on a leash
and what rides I have taken in the car I have done OK. I also would like a home
that has cheese. I love it. If you fit my needs and are interested in me I
would really appreciate you coming to see me. I need a permanent family to
love.

BENTLEY 1-2-year old
neutered male
ADOPTION PENDING
|
BRADLEY 1.5-year-old neutered male
Bradley came to SEVA
GRREAT because his owners lived
in an apartment where pets were not allowed. He is a fairly small dog,
weighing
only about 65 pounds. He is a very loving boy and follows his
foster mom
around the house. He is not a high energy dog, but because he is
young,
will do well in a home where he can go for daily walks. He is an
excellent tennis ball retriever and will bring the ball back and drop
it at
your feet. He has free run of the house when his family is gone
and is
fully housebroken. He will stand by the back door when he needs
to go
out. He understands “sit”, “down”,
“come”, ”out”, “wait”, and
“no”.
He rides so quietly in the car that you might forget that he is
there. He
is a very smart dog and is quickly learning what is expected of
him. He has
learned to walk quietly on the leash using a “gentle
leader”. He thinks
the cats in his foster home are his “fun buddies” and will
chase them if they
run, but will immediately back off if the stand their ground. Bradley
has been known to be picky about his dog friends and for this reason we think
the ideal home for Bradley would be one that does not have other dogs.

BUDDY 12-year old neutered male
Here is BUDDY! He is
a very quiet senior dog, he can get up and down our stairs with no
problems. He loves to play with a tennis ball. He
is a very fast learner and got the hang of the doggy door in the first
week he was with his foster home. Who says you can't teach
an old dog new tricks?! Buddy is very loving and enjoys
laying on a comfy dog bed. He wants to be by your side and
will follow you around the house. He's on his way losing
weight. Goes on long walks, slowly, but loves those walks.
Great with other dogs, and even lets his little foster sibling poodles
chew on his ear and jump on him! Consider adding this
wonderful senior golden to your life!

COOPER 4-5-year old
neutered male
Will the third time be the charm? Cooper has found himself
left in two local shelters in the past two years.
About 18 months ago, he was rescued by a
family on the day he was to be euthanized.
Unfortunately that family fell on hard times,
lost their home and so back to the shelter he went due to no fault of
his own. Fortunately
for Cooper, the shelter called SEVA GRREAT.
Cooper is low-energy, low-maintenance and
simply wants to be wherever you are – he's jokingly referred
to as our "golden shadow"! He
has had training in the past (knows sit and down), thinks about
intermediate training (stay and wait) and will come at the slightest
whisper of his name. Cooper
gets along with every dog he's ever met; however, he's not tested with
cats – although with his high-prey instinct, it might not be
a good idea. He was
exposed to children in his previous home and got along fine with them. Cooper is housebroken and
has been left at home up to 6 hours with no accidents and no
destruction. He
loves to look out the windows of your home and to take rides in the car
(his previous owner stated he had car sickness, although we've seen no
signs of this in rides up to 2 hours).
Cooper really just wants to be loved and will
return that love 10 times over. The
ideal home would have a fenced-in yard for him to run/roam and someone
home at least part-time (or some furry canine friends for him to hang
out with in the absence of human companions).
Are
you the family that Cooper's been waiting for?

DAISY
1.5-year-old spayed female
Welcome
Daisy into your World! This pretty, petite 18 month old sweetheart
has a curious mind and a playful spirit! When Daisy arrived at her
foster home, she was afraid of many things, and treated her first
walk with her foster family as though it might have been her first
walk on a leash ever. Though Daisy may not have had the
opportunities to grow and learn like many Goldens, her innate Golden
curiosity and desire to be one of the pack has made her a new pup!
She now enjoys walks and in a short time has gone from hiding under
a table when seeing a leash to sitting and putting her head through
her harness to show she's ready for an adventure! Being shy of her
new foster brother at first, Daisy now engages him in play as one of
her favorite activities! Most evenings she can now be found
snoozing with her foster brother and even has been caught lovingly
grooming him! Daisy loves to play outside and is a free spirit,
curious about everything new she sees and sniffs. But more than
that she loves to cuddle and relax in the house by your side. Daisy
is fully housebroken and crate trained and shows no signs of
aggression with proper introduction to a new dog. She is untested
with cats. She can be brought into an open environment and reliably
comes back to you when called. Daisy tells us she would love a
forever family that will give her consistent and patient guidance
while introducing her to fun and new experiences gently, and work
with her on her one bad habit, of jumping up. Daisy loves children
but she needs a great deal of supervision and consistency from the
adults in her life to make her a well rounded family member. Ever
since coming to SEVA GRREAT Daisy is showing us that she's ready to
shake off the fears of her past and greet a lifetime of adventure
ahead.

DAISY 5-year old spayed
female
Daisy came to Lab Rescue as a stray. She is approximately 63
pounds, is up-to-date on all her shots and is heartworm/lyme/erlichia
negative. She is good with other dogs. She is well-trained and
knows sit, down and stay. She is easy to walk on lead and heels
when walking with you off-lead. She is both crate and
house-trained. She loves belly rubs and always has a ball in her
mouth which she drops at your feet to tell you she is ready to
retrieve it. If you don't take the hint, she will toss it in your
lap and, if you still don't get the idea, she drops the ball, lays
down and puts it on your feet!

If you are interested in Daisy, please go to the
Lab Rescue Adoption segment of their webpage (http://www.lab-rescue.com/content.asp?contentid=544)

DODGER 8-year old neutered male
Dodger has a very thick, soft fur coat
with a rich golden color. He is very cuddly and nice to hug! And look at those eyes!
He is alert and spunky for an 8-year old guy!
He loves to play this with his foster family,
including young children, and their two dogs. Dodger requires
a fenced yard (no electric fences please) if you are interested in
adopting him. His age only shows in a slightly slower run and
a slowness on stairs. Because of this, Dodger would love a
ranch/one-level home or a setting where the main living area is on the
first floor. Dodger enjoys walks and car rides. He
is good with sit, down, and waiting in a down position until okay to
get his food. He is fully housebroken and can be left up to 9
hours inside without accidents.

EMMA 10-12-year old spayed
female
Emma
is our miracle senior (10-12+years), who is looking for someone who
desires a low energy, low maintenance sweetie. When
we first got her she was being medicated for seizures and on several
meds for various old age maladies.
However, in the last 2 months Emma has
improved dramatically! After
weaning her off most of her meds she has gained a new lust for life.
She was actually seen chasing her tail one day!
Emma is housebroken as long as she goes out
immediately after eating. She will let you know when she wants to come
in. She does well in the house all day but would love someone to follow
around. Since
gaining some energy back Emma has discovered the joy of getting in the
trash. We are
working on it but are usually laughing too hard as she will knock
over the trash can , get her head in, and then fall asleep. A bit of Velcro on the lid
has been helping that. Emma
is a bit slow to get up and sometimes will get stuck on a slick floor
and require help. If she gets stuck she will let you know. She has the sweetest eyes
and can melt you with them. Sometimes,
she looks at you like she doesn't believe she deserves love and
attention, but she most assuredly does, and gets a lot of it from her
foster kids and family. She
gets along well with other dogs, kids, guinea pigs and cats don't
bother her either. This
is a kind, gentle old girl who will add such joy to your life if given
the chance.
